GLAMOUR PUSS:
Wire & Wood

Glamour Puss's "Wire & Wood" is quite possibly the most upbeat CD I have heard in a long time. This Canadian 5 piece, consisting of Ron Dupuis (Drums / Vocals), Travis Furlong (Guitar / Vocals), Paul Boudreau (Bass / Vocals), Roger Cormier (Keyboards / Accordian / Harmonica / Vocals), and Dan Rodgers (Sax / Vocals) are all extremely talented and run the gammet with a musical stew of Rock / Blues / Zydeco / and All-Around-Party Band. Most would be confused by a CD that crams 15 songs of various styles into a CD running less then 53 minutes, however Glamour Puss pull it off, and pull it off flawlessly.

The opening groove of "Kitty Kitty," the tempered "If You Miss Me," and the 1930's aura that surrounds "Swinging Cin" are just a few of the tunes stand out amongst the crop. The talents are vast amongst this group, and they all have their time to shine (even if at the same time!). One fine example is "Six Feet Down," a song which takes you back to the 50's Rock And Roll era (even if you weren't alive to live through it the first time!).

There was one BIG surprise on the CD. I was hesitant, actually I would better use the phrase "taken back" to read that a cover of John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" was included on the disc. Now, there are certain songs you just don't expect to see a cover of - songs that have made such a mark in history, no one dares to try to compare to the original. Simply put: A timeless classic. That being said, I really think that John Lee Hooker would be quite satified to hear such an energetic and moving take on his blues staple. I most certainly was!

Overall: an amazing effort! One that will have this reviewer looking for other Glamou Puss efforts as well as suggest that "Wire & Wood" becomes a part of your collection as well.
